DIY 5 INGREDIENT HAIR MASK

I've been looking for a great hair mask to was going to benefit my hair and scalp. Of course Pinterest is the first place I look.. There's so many different recipes for DIY hair masks, so I though I would conjure up my own. Look through your kitchen pantry to see if you have these 5 simple ingredients: brown sugar/raw sugar, honey, peppermint extract, egg, and olive oil.

Let's talk about the science behind this hair mask.. The sugar is the exfoliant, this will help rid your scalp of build up, honey and olive oil are the moisturizers, these two will leave your hair silky and shiny! Peppermint extract will stimulate your scalp and hair follicles, this will promote hair growth, and last but one of the most important ingredients is the egg. Your hair is made up of proteins, and in order to have healthy hair, you have to ensure your hair is getting enough protein; there's no better way to do that than to slather it on your scalp!

 Step by step:
1. Beat the egg in a small bowl until it is all broken up and mixed well. Then add the rest of your ingredients and mix well.

2. Wrap yourself in a towel.. This will get messy!

3. Starting down the middle of your hair apply the product with a hair dying brush, or your fingers. Repeat until the top of your scalp is coated.

4. Separate your hair starting at the bottom and apply the mixture from the root to the end of your hair.

5. Repeat until all your hair is saturated and your scalp is covereed.

6. Put a shower cap on, if you don't have a showercap use cling wrap or a grocery bag, and wait 30-60 minutes. The longer you leave this mixture on, the better your results will be!

7. Once the time is up, wash your hair as usual and style as usual. Your hair will feel silky, smooth, and easier to style!

Let me know if you try this out! I would love to hear how it works for you.. Leave any comments down below. If you have any questions/buisness please email me @ beautyinsiderbyna@gmail.com!

How to grow long, healthy hair

Let me take you on a journey through my hair recovery process. I will spill all my secrets on how I got my hair to the condition it is today. It was a long journey, but once you make your hair care routine a habit, it no longer becomes a chore.

  2011-2012 Freshman Year

As you can see my hair was short, kinda choppy. This was the time of every teens life when they wanted "Thin, Choppy, Scene" hair. At the time I loved my short hair. I didn't want to grow my hair out. All I wanted was to keep it healthy since styling my hair every day was a must!

Coconut oil helped me keep my hair healthy and free of dry ends! Keep in mind.. My hair is thick, curly, and sometimes unruly which is why I prefer my hair straight. We all know straightening your hair comes with a cost- damaged ends. In order for me to be able to straighten my hair and not have an excessive amount of damage I treated my hair to a coconut oil soak.

Freshman year was also year I made my biggest hair mistake. BLEACHING MY HAIR. I still look back and wonder- WHY! But, I am past that point and have not dyed my hair since.

2012-2013 Sophomore Year
Yes, I cut off all my hair into a short bob. I did this because I wanted a fresh start. I needed to get rid of all my dead ends from the bleach, and any dead ends from years past.  At this time, I promised myself I would not dye my hair, or cut it all off again. I did, however, get regular trims to help with the process.

If you're thinking about growing your hair, one of my biggest tips is, if you can, stop dying your hair. Especially if you use heat tools. I was always told, "Don't use heat tools if you want to grow your hair." I disagree, however, it may be true for some, but I did not need to stop straightening my hair for it to grow. If you do straighten your hair like I do, your hair STILL CAN GROW!

Since I cut my hair all off.. I really wanted to know what it was like to have long hair. So, I bought extensions from Sally's Beauty Supply.  Having extensions was  fun. I could have long hair when I wanted, or short hair. Once again, I made another rookie mistake. I wore my extensions all day.. And night. I began to notice hair loss. That alarmed me, here I am trying to grow my hair and its falling off! I decided to toss the extensions and focus on my natural hair! I abused my extensions to the point where I had an actually spot where my clip-ins broke my hair completely off. My tip to you- don't over use your extensions. Yes, they're great when you want extra length or volume but don't make the same mistake I did!

     2013-2014 Junior year

Junior year was all about that coconut oil, again! I never skipped a treatment. In a small container, I would melt a few tablespoons of coconut oil, apply it to my scalp, flip my head upside down (weird, I know, but try it!), and massage my scalp for 5-10 minutes. Then I slept with the oil. Be sure to put a towel or wrap your head so you don't get oil all over your sheets! In the morning, wash your hair like you regularly do. I also added a tiny amount to my ends before blow drying and styling.

Another HUGE tip- don't wash your hair every day! Do not do it. When you was your hair every day your are stripping your hair of its natural oils. I wash my hair and deep condition with coconut oil about every other day or two. While I am shampooing my hair, I focus the shampoo only on the roots. When I condition, I do the opposite, I focus on the ends of my hair and leave the conditioner on for 3-5 minutes. If your hair tends to get oily fast, I would recommend Tresseme Dry Shampoo. Dry shampoo is great, especially if you're a little lazy like me! A few spritz on the roots and you're good to go! If your hair is dark like mine, this product doesn't build up and leave a white residue like other dry shampoos that I have tried.

2014-2015 Senior Year
By the end of my senior year, my hair was the longest it's ever been! Throughout my senior year I was taking BIOTIN, HAIRFINITY, and still regularly using coconut oil. This is when I saw the most improvement in my hair. My hair was the best its ever been! Minimal split ends, strong strands- I love it. Not only does biotin help with your hair, it also helps your skin and nails! Its a 3-in-1 and a product I will always have on hand.

Top TIPS:
    1.  Don't wash your hair daily.
    2. Take a supplement- Biotin, Hairfinity, etc.
    3. Drink plenty of water.
    4. Eat more protein- chicken, fish, nuts, etc. (Your hair is composed of proteins, therefore eating more protein will increase your hair growth.)
    5.  USE A HEAT PROTECTOR. (Tresseme also makes a heat protector that I love!)
    6. Invest in a brush that doesn't break your hair. (The Wet Brush is a great option!)

Beauty Tip Tuesday!

Beauty Tip Tuesday!

Happy Tuesday beauties!

Every Tuesday I will share my favorite beauty tips, tricks, and how to effectively use them.
This Tuesday will be all about how to keep your skin moisturized during the winter! If you're anything like me, you know the struggle of having dry skin during the winter months, and finding a moisturizer that is good for your skin but wont break your wallet is almost impossible. Well, you've come to the right place! These are my top two favorite products to use on my skin during the cold months ahead!
  • COCONUT OIL- Coconut oil provides a deep and real moisture. Unlike other name brand products that tend to suffocate your face, coconut oil strengthens the underlying layers of skin
    • To use coconut oil, apply a thin layer to your face and/or body before bed, and after exfoliating. Coconut oil can also be used on your lips if your lips are dry! If you're feeling ambitious and in need of an exfoliant; mix one tablespoon of coconut oil with two teaspoons of pure cane sugar. Use twice a week for irresistibly soft skin!
  •  ST. IVES TIMELESS SKIN COLLAGEN ELASTIN FACIAL MOISTURIZER- I have used this moisturizer time and time again. It's my GO-TO winter moisturizer! While I lived in Texas I never needed a heavy moisturizer because the humidity was so high. Once I moved to New Jersey, I cannot skip this step or product especially during fall and winter when the air is crisp.  This moisturizer has many anti-aging benefits!
    • To use this moisturizer, apply a thin layer to your face before bed. This moisturizer can also be used before you apply your makeup! Just be sure to allow it to fully absorb into your skin!

Keeping your face and body moisturized is extremely important to prevent premature aging. I hope you have enjoyed today's Tuesday Tip! Have any questions? Feel free to leave a comment and subscribe to get daily blogs!

About me

Hello fellow beauty addicts! My name is Feliciana, I am a self-proclaimed beauty addict and I might have a slight (okay, HUGE) obsession with buying and trying the latest beauty products! Here, on my blog you will find my honest opinion on all things beauty. Also, I am working on bettering myself inside and out; I will be sharing fitness tips and some of my favorite recipes to make!

Here's a little more about me. I was born and raised in the great state of Texas. I now live in New Jersey with my mother. I was apart of the class of 2015 and I will be starting a nursing program in January

I have loved makeup and beauty products since I was a little girl. I can vividly remember watching my mother put on her makeup everyday and watching her skin care regimen just thinking to myself, " I cant wait till I can be just like her". When I was 7 or 8 I would try on my mothers moisturizers (without her knowing of course), I would always fall in love all over again with my face, I thought it couldn't get better. Boy was I wrong, once I was a little older I started to get a hang of how makeup worked and what went where so I started to use her lip gloss, mascara, well really anything I could get my hands on. That's when my love truly bloomed. During my first year of high school I really got into makeup, and started watching many Youtubers. I would watch tutorials for hours because I wanted my makeup to look just like theirs. Sophomore year, I was still learning and looking for new techniques. During my junior year, I skipped Homecoming and Prom because I was booked! On Homecoming night, I gave four of my friends makeovers. Seeing the reactions on my friends faces when they looked into the mirror made me beyond happy because I worked so hard perfecting my techniques. Senior year, was one of my greatest years in makeup. I was always getting calls and texts because girls needed their makeup done!

Makeup and beauty is always something I have always been passionate about. I love helping women feel and look beautiful which is why I am starting this blog. I am so glad you're here to help me on this journey!
